Short form:

Casual form
Extends the sentence (similar to たべましょう、たべています、 etc)
です　Becomes だ

That Person is my younger sister:

あの人は私のいもうとです。　Formal です/ます

あの人は私のいもうとだ。　Casual

Asking a question in casual form:

When asking a question in casual/short form, you drop the か. Similar to English, you raise the pitch slightly towards the end of a sentence to indicate a question.

つもりです…

I plan to..

Short + つもりです/だ。

Polite: Short+つもりです。
Casual: Short+つもりだ。

I Plan to go to the Library:

図書館(としょかん)に行くつもりです。

Just because the sentence is extended with short form, does not mean the sentence is causal. For example:

I Plan to eat Ramen:

らメンをたべるつもりです Is still Formal (です/ます).

Whereas

らメンを食べるつもりだ Is the casual form. It’s the ending that matters.

More examples:

I plan to go to school tomorrow:

あした、学校に行くつもりです。(equivalent to ます)

あした、学校に行くつもりだ。
