Let’s have a look at an example class!
Example class:
Requirements:
A good level of English. Can you follow my YouTube classes with no problem? If so, you should be fine!
Working mic and camera! Whether cameras are used will depend on class vote.
Over 18 years of age.
Good internet connection.
Available to attend at least 3 lessons a month. Attending less may lead to falling behind in class, and this is a fast paced course.
A quiet room to do the classes (quiet enough that the background noise will not be an inconvenience to others).
An extra 2 hours a week on top of lesson time you can devote to homework and group work! I like to provide as much content as I can!
Notes about classes:
I am not native Japanese, however I’ve been teaching Japanese beginners for 3 years and have had all students that I’ve tutored for beginners Japanese pass their intended exams.
I’m roughly N3 level, so there’s a few things I don’t know! Whenever I’m not sure, I’ll ask a native speaker and get back to you!
I’m pretty casual! I think it makes classes more fun!
I studied Japanese at university as my major ( they only require you to study up to N3, even after years of classes). I also studied at ISI language school in Tokyo.
I teach Japanese that will help you pass exams. This won’t always be how people speak, however it’s a lot easier to go from ‘exam Japanese’ -> ‘real Japanese’ than to learn ‘real Japanese’ and then try to learn ‘exam Japanese’.
It’s quite hard to know what will pop up on the N5 exam, however my course goes over extra kanji and grammar, just in case!
If the pace is too fast, we can cut a few lessons out! So don’t worry! In theory, we will be studying 6 kanji/28 words a week.
Before class starts:
Please pay £12.50 to Paypal: lulu@pocketjapanese.com before each class.
Please self study lessons 1-5 of Pocket Japanese. If you don’t have time, just have a Quick Look through as much as possible before the classes start! If needed, we can slow down the pace for a few weeks so people can catch up!
Please let me know your preference: Class with webcams or Class with just voice.
Unless it’s within the cancellation policy, you will not receive a refund if you are unable to fulfil the above requirements after signing up!
-
Once you give pay, you can receive a 100% refund if you cancel within 24 hours. After 24 hours, you can receive a 75% (25% taken for admin that will be incurred).
Key Dates:
After Jan 5th, you can only receive 50% of your deposit when cancelling.
After Feb 17th, you can receive 30%.
This policy is generous, most offer no refunds. I understand that life circumstances change, so I’d like to offer something. However you’ve taken a slot that cannot be filled last minute, so you must pay for it.
-
£40.50 deposit is required. This will go towards your final 4 lessons. You will then pay for the first 3 lessons weekly.
This policy is generous, most require full paymet. I only require the final 4 lessons to be prepaid as a deposit. This also encourages you to stick with the course till the end if it gets difficult.
-
A. Less serious cases will get a warning.
B. Serious cases will be removed from the group and if you’re currently participating in a course you will not be refunded.
I’ve never had a problem with this before, however please remember there are people from different countries in this group. What may be a joke to you could be perceived in a different light to them. This should also go without saying, but if you treat anybody differently due to their sex or race, you will be removed without refund.
-
The full amount is required before the course starts so I don’t spend time chasing up payments every class! Although I love to trust everyone will pay, chasing up payments is an extra stress I can avoid.
If you are unable to pay in full, we can add you to a special circumstances list where you can pay:
50% before Jan 5th and 50% before Jan 11th.
Note the same cancellation policy applies, and therefore you’ll receive 0% back upon cancelling before paying the second installment.
