  • Let’s start simple!

    Somebody asks you…

  • どうしてその高い時計を買いましたか。

    どうしてそのたかいとけいをかいましたか。

    Why did you buy that expensive watch?

  • Let’s say you want to reply with ‘because’.

    You use the following sentence structure.

  • Sentence

    +からです。

  • Firstly…

    Let’s see an example without からです。

  • かっこいいです。

    It is cool.

  • And now…

    Let’s add から before です。

  • かっこいいからです。

    Because it is cool.

  • In 英語, the because comes at the beginning…

    But please note in 日本語, it comes just before the です。

  • よ is used for enthasising a statement.

    It’s generally used to communicate information the speaker thinks the listener does not already know.

  • ベンさんは学生ではありませんよ。

    ベンさんはがくせいではありませんよ。

    Just so you know, Ben Is not a student.

  • It can be considered rude in some situations, so be sure not to use it with those of higher status!
